Sliding Fee Scale at SBNC

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) requires Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) to offer services on a Sliding Fee Discount Program (also known as a sliding fee scale) to ensure affordable care for all patients, regardless of their ability to pay.

Key Features of SBNC's Sliding Fee Scale Program:

1. Income-Based Discounts

The sliding fee scale is based on the patient’s household income and family size, aligned with the Federal Poverty Guidelines (FPG).

2. Nominal Fees

For those below 100% of the FPG, a nominal fee may be charged. This is not meant to cover the full cost of the service and should not be a barrier to care.

3. No Denial of Services

SBNC will not deny services to patients based on their inability to pay. The sliding fee scale is designed to remove financial barriers.

4. Applicability to All Services

The discount applies to all in-scope services.

5. Transparency & Communication

SBNC will clearly communicate the program to all patients and reassess eligibility annually or as patient circumstances change.

6. Uniform Implementation

SBNC applies the sliding fee policy uniformly to all patients, ensuring equity and compliance with federal regulations.
