Dental Residency Program at SBNC
The Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics (SBNC) offers clinical training in partnership with NYU Langone through an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program. The 1-year or 2-year program matches residents to our dental clinics – the Eastside Family Dental Clinic in Santa Barbara and the Goleta Neighborhood Dental Clinic in Goleta. Our dental providers care for patients of all ages, cultural backgrounds, and medical conditions. Due to the close-knit relationship our clinics have with the community, the primary goal of our residency program is to train residents through providing comprehensive and patient-centered care. The faculty/staff dentist-to-resident ratio is about one-to-one. We value our patients and practice within the standard of care with the primary goals of elimination/treatment of oral disease and restoring form and function. Our clinics have a cone beam CT unit, iTero Element II scanners, a glidewell.io™ FastMill, electrosurgery units, and a surgical/endo microscope.
Residents will gain experience in the following areas:
Endodontics – Root canal therapy on molar, premolar, and anterior dentition, with rotary files and Guttacore carrier and warm vertical obturation techniques. Part-time endodontists work with our residents on a monthly basis.
Oral Surgery – Simple and surgical extractions, alveoloplasties, tori removal, simple biopsies, bone grafting for ridge preservation, and guided implant surgery. A part-time oral surgeon works with our residents on a biweekly basis.
Fixed Prosthodontics – Single unit crowns, fixed partial dentures, and abutment supported crowns and bridges.
Removable Prosthodontics – Resin-base, metal framework, and flexible base removable partial dentures. Complete dentures and implant-retained overdentures.
Periodontics – Hard and soft tissue crown lengthening procedures
Our clinics have a cone beam CT unit, iTero Element II scanners, a glidewell.io™ FastMill, electrosurgery units, and a surgical/endo microscope.
